The Gold Medal Speech

The Gold Medal speech took place on the 19/12/11 in The Centenary room of the College. It was adjudicated by Cathy O’Halloran from R.T.E. and two teachers from the English Department. The following sixth year students took part in the debate; Barry Nash, Michael Lyons, Shane Kelly, Paul Phelan, Sean Cody and Con Berkery.

Each speech was of a very high standard, which made adjudication very difficult. However, Shane Kelly emerged as the worthy winner speaking in favour of the motion- “We are badly served by the media which seems to have lost all objectivity”.

TY’s meet Taoiseach!

On the 14th of December the TY’s travelled to Dublin to meet Enda Kenny. The visit was widely covered in the media. The students wore white gowns with the red collars traditionally worn at the Christmas Carol service. The main reason for the visit to Government Buildings was the launch of the TY Mini-company Christmas Carols CD. The TY’s sang ‘Joy to the World’ as the Taoiseach came out on the steps and then they were joined by Mr. Kenny in a lovely rendition of ‘Silent Night’. He posed for photographs with the four entrepreneurs. The Mini-Company would like to thank everyone for their great support and “It shows we can all stand by each other!”. Lets hope that the CD sales sky rocket as a result!!

Senior Hurling Victory

Well done to the Senior Hurlers on their win over Enniscorty in the Semi Final of the Leinster Senior B hurling championship. CCR won on a scoreline of 4-7 to 1-8. Barry Nash scored 2-0 with Brian Hyland contributing 1-6. An excellent display from the goalie and the 6 backs laid the foundation for a great win. They will now go into the Final as underdogs but the battling qualities that have helped them get this far will upset any team.
