				<description><![CDATA[<p>The U 15 rugby team took part in a national 7 a side blitz in Limerick on Saturday 21st April.The team led by their captain,Tim Carroll, won the competition with the final match against Cresent College Limerick.</p>

Scholars are students who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge and understanding of their subjects and are elected annually in various subjects as the result of an examination.</p>

		<title>UCD High Achiever Awards</title>

				<description><![CDATA[<p>Congratulations to Garreth Gallagher (2011), Colin Moloney (2011), Diarmaid Nash (2008) and David Kirwan (2011) who will all receive High Achievers Awards from U.C.D. <br />
 <br />
These awards are presented to students in recognition of their achieving over 540 points in their Leaving Certificate Examinations and also for the talents that they developed while studying in the University.</p>

<p>Gareth, Colin and Diarmaid will receive their awards on Tuesday evening and David will receive his award on Wednesday evening. </p>

		<title>TY Build a Bank Challenge</title>

				<description><![CDATA[<p>On Tuesday 6th March the Transition Year Bank team took part in the regional finals of the AIB Build a Bank competition. The competition on the day was of a very high standard and while our team had an excellent presentation they did not progress to the national finals. The bank was launched in the College by Brendan Cummins the well known Tipperary hurling goal keeper. Members of the bank team were Matthew Kavanagh (Manager), Peter Ennis (Assistant Manager), Peter O’Driscoll (Auditor), Jack Ryan (Sales and Marketing) and Gary O’Toole and Stephen Leo (Tellers)</p>]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[<p>Congratulations to all students who participated in the Inter-schools Choral Festival which took place in Wesley College on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd  March.&nbsp; All acquitted themselves with aplomb.&nbsp; Sincere gratitude is also extended to Mr Cullagh, Mr Doherty and Ms Coventry for the extensive preparation and support provided on the day.</p>

		<title>Techno Teachers Association National Student Awards 2011</title>

				<description><![CDATA[<p>Congratulations to  Richard Tynan, a native of Portarlington, who is currently in Transition Year who recieved an award for achieving 3rd place in the Junior Certificate Technical Graphics State Exam in June 2011, over 12,000 students in the country sat this exam.</p>

<p>The Award ceremony took place on Saturday 3rd March in the GMIT Galway.&nbsp; Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate, Leaving <br />
Cert Applied students and their teachers were invited to this ceremony.&nbsp; Students who received the 1st, 2nd and 3rd highest results in the subjects of Technical Graphics, Materials Technology Wood, Graphics and Construction Studies, Technology, Design and Communication Graphics and Construction Studies were presented with Scrolls and Certificates for their outstanding achievements in the State Examinations 2011.&nbsp;   <br />
 <br />
The presentations to the Awardees and their teachers were made by Minister Ciaran Cannon and Padraig Cawley, Chairperson TechnoTeachers Association.&nbsp; In his spech,&nbsp; Minister Cannon congratulated all the awardees on their achievements and wished them every success in their future studies and endeavours.&nbsp; He stated that as Minister of Training and Skills he had a particular interest in subjects which have a specific relation to skills which transfer directly to the workplace.&nbsp; He said that the skills gained in these subjects will prove valuable in a range of careers; these are all transferable skills and will help students both in their future studies and careers.</p>

		<title>Young Scientist Exhibition 2012</title>

				<description><![CDATA[<p>Cistercian College students Angus Baker and Mark Dowley, pictured down on the farm at Mount St Joseph Abbey, came third in the senior group Biological and Ecological category in this year’s Young Scientist Competition.&nbsp; Their project title “An investigation into the treatment of lactating cows using bacteriophages versus antibiotics” involved research which was completed on the Abbey farm.&nbsp; The students also received an award for their project display.</p>

<p>Richard Hughes, Matthew Kavanagh and Richard Tynan undertook an investigation into sleep deprivation; their research was carried out on campus amongst their fellow students and was the subject of much attention from visitors and organisers at the BT Young Scientist competition.&nbsp;   For their efforts they were highly commended by the judges in the Social and Behavioural Sciences group intermediate category. </p>
